Sens. Hagan, Murkowski announce bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act

WASHINGTON – Feb. 5, 2014 – In a show of cooperation, Sens. Kay Hagan (NC) and Lisa Murkowski (AK) have introduced a bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act, which includes the reauthorization of the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA).

2014 Farm Bill passes the House: Sportsmen and women’s top priorities included in bill

WASHINGTON – Jan. 29, 2014 – The House of Representatives today passed the 2014 Farm Bill with a bipartisan vote of 251-166.

The 2014 Farm Bill includes the conservation and sporting community’s top priorities of re-coupling conservation compliance to crop insurance and a Sodsaverprogram affecting top duck-producing states of Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. 

The NWTF and Texas Parks & Wildlife Bring More Turkeys to East Texas

Since its founding, the NWTF and its partners have trapped and transferred more than 200,000 wild turkeys across North America.

Edgefield, S.C. – Eastern wild turkeys from Alabama, Missouri, Kansas, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia will call parts of eastern Texas home over the next few weeks, thanks to the efforts of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD).

Youth deer hunts held on private areas in the Upstate

South Carolina – Private landowners cooperating with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) hosted 10 special youth deer hunts in the Upstate during 2013. Fifty-five youth attended these hunts and 5 deer were killed. These hunts were conducted in Cherokee, Laurens, Spartanburg and Union counties and there is no cost to attend these special hunts.

2014 Spring Turkey Quota Hunts Applications

NASHVILLE, TN— The Feb. 5 deadline is nearing for applications for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency 2014 Spring Turkey Quota Hunts. The application period began Dec. 18, 2013.

Hunters Asked to Report Deer Harvested during February

Alabama – The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is reminding deer hunters to report any deer harvested during the upcoming February extended season through the Game Check program.

Snook reopens in Atlantic state waters

Florida – The recreational harvest season for snook reopens on Feb. 1 in Florida’s Atlantic coastal and inland waters (from the Miami-Dade/Monroe county line north), including Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee River. The season will remain open through May 31.
