Florida plan conserves 57 imperiled fish and animals

Today at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) meeting in Panama City Beach, staff presented the draft of the Florida Imperiled Species Management Plan, an innovative, integrated and comprehensive approach to conserving multiple imperiled species.

Texas Mule Deer Outlook Promising

AUSTIN – Prospects are good for the upcoming mule deer hunting season, which gets under way Saturday, Nov. 21 in the Texas Panhandle and Nov. 27 in the Trans Pecos. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologists say above average habitat conditions have bolstered body weights and antler growth this year. Also, the state agency is asking hunters and landowners to submit harvested mule deer for sampling as part of enhanced, statewide monitoring efforts for Chronic Wasting Disease.

FWC designates new Critical Wildlife Area

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) today designated a sandbar in Collier County, known as “Second Chance,” as a Critical Wildlife Area. The island, which is part of a larger shoal complex, is an important nesting site for Wilson’s plovers and state-listed least terns and black skimmers.

Tennessee 2015-16 Gun Hunting Season for Deer Opens

NASHVILLE — One of Tennessee’s long-standing annual outdoors traditions begins Saturday, Nov. 21 with the opening of the 2015-16 gun hunting season for deer. Deer gun season has the permanent opening date of the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving.

West Virginia’s deer firearms seasons open Nov. 23

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia’s traditional buck firearms season begins Monday, Nov. 23, 2015. The buck firearms season has opened the Monday before Thanksgiving every year since 1965. The timing of the season is a balance of hunting some of the “rut” (mating season) but still allowing for the annual renewal of the deer herd.
